President Ghani: Local Governance needs Reforms
Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, The President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan met with the chairmen and members of the commissions of the Wolesi Jirga on Communications, Nomadic Affairs and Natural Resources and Environmental Protection on 14/10/2020.
The meeting, which took place at the Presidential Palace, began with the speeches of Mohammadullah Batash, Member of the Wolesi Jirga's Commission on Communications, Urban Development, Housing, Water and Power and Municipality Affairs, Ahmad Javed Jaihoon, member of Wolesi Jirga commission on Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Energy and Water and Land, and Mariam Sulaimankhel, Deputy Chairwoman of the Commission on Nomads, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled, Widows, Refugees, work and Labor Affairs.
Besides talking about the achievements of past 19 years and expressing their support with Afghan security and defense forces they said, “We are pleased that the role of the people in the peace process is decisive and that they make the final decision," They also urged for greater coordination between the executive and the legislature, strengthening good governance, water, mining and land management, environmental protection and caring nomads.
After hearing their speeches, President Ghani said, "Investing in dams is one of our priorities." He added that standard mining facilities should be provided and necessary steps should be taken to protect the environment.President Ghani praised the role of the commissions in protecting and supporting the achievements of the past nineteen years, including the peace process, the republican system and the security and defense forces, and said that reforms and changes are needed at the local government level.
